Hey Jim and Kathy. Great milestone. In 5 more years you'll be the same as Jill and I. Oops, by then we will be 60 years. Tell each other you love them each day. You never know what the future is going to bring and then it's too late. Harold and Jill (Webster) Reed.

JIM and KATHY WHITE'S 50th anniversary. Thank you Karen, Harold, Doris, Laura and Pete for your good wishes. Some of you know due to being on our travel blog where we are (Galveston Island) and what we are doing (celebrating our 50th anniversary). As Harold Reed (Jill Webster's husband) stated, we are 5-years behind he and Jill. I also know Louise Ybarra Christensen and Rick are beyond and 50-years and wonder how many others are? Believe me, it takes a miracle.

Our children were doing a zoom call for Kathy and me and when we logged on, expecting to see our three children, spouses and grandchildren, what did we see? A packed meeting including Judy Adams Morris and Ron, many lifelong friends and more. Wow! Were we surprised! Anyway, thank all of you for your kind remarks and for keeping mum about my marrying up. A short version (12-minutes, anyway) of our 50-years was put together by Kathy's brother. It is below IF you have any interest.

Watch "50th Anniversary Memories" on YouTube

Finally, let me say when I talk about myself on our class website, which I seem to do a lot, it is to bring up a subject matter you might like to address in our own situation. I feel very vulnerable posting my life on this site. Sometimes I feel this website is all about me and I am afraid others might think the same and drop out. Please particiapte. I assure you we all want to know what you are up to.

As we are now, trying to catch up with Pete Garton who RV'd for 12-years prior to our starting 3-years ago. We have been in 41 states thus far, a number of them several times, and will have 47 states by the end of summer. Hopefully we will see some of you along the way, including Bobby Allison in Mississippi.

Hey Jim,

Congratulations to you and Kathy-50 years?  Quite an attestment to both of you.  Best wishes for many more happy years.  Boyce's gift of the 5th wheel has really been a god-send and given you and Kathy a whole new life traveling the United States.  What a great experience you two are able to share!

I know you must have really enjoyed the video. Heck, I enjoyed the video.  Brought back many memories for you, I'm sure.  Again, congratulations, Buddy.  I look forward to seeing you next time you come through DFW.

How lucky can one classmate be? HERKY VEACH and LOUIS BAGWELL were both kind enough to meet with me this week for lunch. HERKY and his delightful wife and son, Mary and Tim, met Kathy and me at the famed Kemah Boardwalk for lunch. We had a good long lunch and hope for another. LOUIS traveled quite a ways, probably one and one-half to two hours one way to meet with me in Galveston, where I am for a few weeks. It is really nice to have a school classmate and friend willing to do that .... which, by the way, HERKY did a few weeks ago when he came to BOB REAM and KAREN HARRINGTON REAM'S home near The Woodlands. LOUIS and I would like to plan a fun (and safe) classmate event in Galveston but would BARBY MITCHELL or JOHNNY ALLEN come?

L/R Tim, Mary, Kathy, Jim, Herky (a bunch of Iced Tea drinkers)

Louis and Jim (drinking Iced Tea, of course)

[EDITOR'S OPINION] I have had classmates, ones that don't care about seeing or finding other classmates, say, "I am so past high school." Damn, aren't we all. Haven't we all gone out, married, had successes and more? So your history means nothing to you? Kids you grew up with mean nothing? Let me tell you about a couple. While having lunch with Herky and Mary this week, they discovered that my wife, Kathy, is thinking about having knee replacement surgery. It is difficult because we are on the move a lot in our 5th-Wheel. So what did Herky and Mary offer, at their own volition? First, a hookup on their property (they know we prefer to stay in our 5th-Wheel) for as long as we need it (they assume a 2-month minimum rehab) and to also build ramps so Kathy would not need to go up steps, and to also physically help her with rehab. This generous offer was made just seeing a need of a classmate, one they do not know well and one that they have had very little contact with over 50 years. We are going a different route with treatments at present, but that kindness is what our class is all about ... except the few that have "outgrown high school."

Have a great holiday season .... Merry Christmas!

That's wonderful of them! Good luck to Kathy...she will be so happy once it's over with.

Jim,  I've had both knees replaced.  I can tell Kathy that knee replacement results are amazing.  I have the knees of a teenager.  No pain and full mobility and flexibility.  However, be prepared for a very difficult first two weeks.  Can be really bad, as they literally pick up the nerves and move them over to access the knee.  The nerves don't like to be treated that way.  They get angry and go into spasms,  which is not pleasant.  Then you need to deal with rehab.  I recommend rehab as soon as possible.  I had surgeries on a Friday and was in rehab on Monday.  Rehab takes 4-6 weeks.  Even after that, it takes almost exactly a year for your knee to be right.  I know you probably have other places in mind for surgery, but my doctor in Dallas, who does about 500 of these a year, is really good.  My rehab guy has told me stories of knee replacements that have gone horribly wrong.  Important to have the right doctor and the right rehab program.  I'd be glad to talk to Kathy, if that would be helpful.

Our deepest sympathy goes to GWENDOLYN THOMAS WOLFE (RHS'66) and JOHN LESLIE WOLFE (RHS'66) for the passing of Gwen's husband and John's brother, STEPHEN WOLFE, SR. (RHS'62). Steve was an exceptional man and for much more than being the 2016 Citizen of the Year for Roswell. This is a loss for all.

Thank you to MARIANNE COONS McCULLOUGH who found this obituary so we could share. If anyone else has news of someone in need of prayer, cards or acknowledgement of a passing, please let us or me know.

We also advise you that BOYCE and ANNIE McFARLAND lost her mother recently. Annie's mother was 106 years, 7 months old when she passed.

It is MARLA GIBSON FREY'S birthday today. Marla, your classmates hope it will be a great birthday and we hope you have a sickness-free 2021 and are able to get back to your race paddling. Love those ladies in racing skulls. Also, I will give $5 to the first classmate who looks through the 50-year reunion pictures and video and finds Marla not smiling or laughing. Marla enjoyed seeing your childhood friends and it was very evident. Happy Birthday, Marla.

BARBY MITCHELL STAGNER and LOUIS BAGWELL paid Kathy and me a visit today in Galveston. It has been ages since I, or anyone, has seen Barby. Thank you two so much for coming for a visit. For anyone else in South Texas, think about Rockport (near Corpus Christi) in February. MICHAELE AUSTIN KELLY has a brother in the area, HERKY VEACH has his computer tech in Rockport which he needs to see, and Kathy and I will be there. In January, Kathy and I will be in San Benito near So. Padre Island and a quick trip to southern Colorado on business. In the 5% chance we will not be racing to Colorado, we will be in our RV at Lake Medina near MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN, RHONDA BERNING and who knows who else? So, in the meantime, plan on visiting lovely Rockport in February, but keep healthy and safe. Hopefully we all can get our vaccines by then but I doubt it. Maybe in March we will be able to visit BOBBY ALLISON on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Facebook Group: Jim & Kathy's Excellent Adventures

RITA EUDY passed along this 2017 Road Trippers article that we think you might find interesting. Thank you, Rita.

I read it and found it interesting and have even seen other classmates talking about it on their Facebook page.

Have a Merry Christmas and let us have a better 2021. Stay healthy.

Thank you, Jim and Marianne, for posting my brother Steve's obituary. His progression of Covid was extremely fast, and we were shocked and extremely saddened. But, his family could be with him, could at least visit his side (fully protected with PPE) before he was intubated, and once after. This is a horrible disease, not respective of borders, or political affiliations, or country pride. My family will meet outside, and will be fully masked to have our Christmas. We'll be cold for a bit, but it won't keep us from being happy. Please protect yourselves and those you love this year. Follow the science, wear masks, get vaccinated when that's possible, and be here next year to meet again. Love to all. John

MARLA GIBSON FREY, that has to be the cutest Christmas card I have seen this season. It also reflects your and Walter's wonderful personalities. Merry Christmas every one.

Is anyone a member of classmates.com also? I am not since we have this website. Three classmates have joined them recently and I have no contact information or way to contact them and give them our link. They are:
- Ramon Trujillo (been lost to us for decades)
- James Meekins (living in Austin our last contact ages ago)
- Karen Rogers (we don't have a Karen Rogers but perhaps that is a married name).

Can you help us contact these lost souls (and possibly others), to our class site but care enough to have tried to connect to us within the past month?

Prayer Request: JEANINE MIRSKY RAPPAPORT'S husband, Jerry, is on a ventilator for Covid and requests the prayers of our class prayer warriors. They were both keeping ultra safe and making the right moves but still got it. Warriors, your help, please. Jeanine, keep us informed. Blessings to you and Jerry.

My oldest daughter was just quoted in a career advice column in Forbes. She and son-in-law are doing well financially. They bought my granddaughter a Maserati convertible for Christmas.

Wait for it -

With deep sadness we report that JEANINE MIRSKY RAPPAPORT lost her husband, Jerry. Even in her loss, so recent she is still processing it, Jeanine wants to thank the RHS-GHS prayer warriors. I am not certain I have the correct Las Vegas address but if you would like to send a private note, go to Jeanine's page and click under her picture, or post a public message on this page. Again, Jeanine, we all are so sorry for your loss.

Our class birthdays this month start today (Jan 2nd) with musician, BOBBY ALLISON, and ends with another musician, JERRY ROBBINS ... and many other wonderful classmates in between. Go to the home page and see who you know having a birthday this month.

RICK MARCUM just returned from Mexico and he and Johnine are considering moving there soon. Our class has a lot of adventurers.

LAURA KNIGHT ATKINS thanks all who communicated with her during her leukemia treatments. Gives her something to read during waiting room visits. Sweet Laura is in discussions at present with Mayo Clinic about stem cell transplant. Our thoughts and prayers are still with you, Laura.

BILL SLOAN posted a picture of his sweet granddaughter in her new Masserati she got for Christmas. Did anyone else notice she was taking up two parking places? Just saying.

From far south Texas, next to the Gulf and Mexico, Kathy and I wish everyone vaccinations and good health in 2021. Bless our classmates and the honorable lives they have lived.
