IN MEMORY

Charles J. "Chip" King

Charles J. Chip KingOur friend and classmate, Charles J. "Chip" King passed away today, October 2nd, from cancer just 2 1/2 hours after entering hospice. Charlie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie, and their son, Chase. Another son, Chad, died a few years ago. Chip was on radio in Roswell and took the Charlie J. King show to Florida where he met his wife, Bonnie, on a competing radio station. Chip ultimately made a career on computers for NASA and was involved in most space shots. Chip was alert and lucid up to the last week of his life and did converse with classmate friends.

I am so sorry to hear that.  It seems it's happening more often now. Makes us all feel way more vulnerable.
He was a very nice man and his family will be in my prayers.  God bless.

This is so sad. Chip was truly a good guy and will be missed by all that knew him. This past week has been sad. We've lost Scott Barham and Robert "Bob" Stevenson from the class of 65 I believe. May they all rest in the arms of the angels.

Chip was a great guy.  Always smiling.  The good part of passing is that he will no longer struggle with the cancer.  Our prayers go out to Bonnie and the rest of Chip's family.  May God wrap you all in his protective arms and help you to continue on keeping your memories of Chip close to your heart.

Although I did not know Chip well, I sat behind him in History class. He always had a ready smile for everyone. These bodies we live in are only shells; May his spirit live forever in heaven. My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones especially his wife Bonnie.  I know the pain of losing a husband after 47 years, it isn't easy.  The good times and memories will be there forever. Many blessings to you.

Chip and I were both "Air Force brats" and lived a few blocks from each other.  Chip and I became friends when I moved to Roswell my senior year.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), Chip and I got into a lot of trouble together.  All in all, we had some great times. After my senior year, I went to college, Chip stayed in Roswell and we just drifted apart.  The last time I saw him, I had come to Roswell for the weekend and stopped by KBIM to see him as he was working as a DJ.  This last month, I sent him a card to let him know he was in my thoughts and prayers. Bonnie, his wife, in turn sent me a card, as he was too sick to respond himself. Chip has been through so much these last several years and has endured so much pain as he fought several painful health issues at the same time. Several years ago we were going to meet in Las Vegas, but he couldn't make it. He had COPD and confessed that, to test himself to see if he could handle the trip, he tried to walk around the block, but couldn't.  I'm glad he is done with the pain. May he now find the peace and happiness he so riichly deserves.

Chip, my friend, I am going to miss you immensely. You and Bonnie are quite a duo of personalities to the ceiling. As I look at your picture on your deck on the waterway to the Atlantic, I am thrilled you had such a good life with NASA and Bonnie. You were an amazing musical talent, computer nerd, wonderful father and husband. Not a single classmate has ever said anything bad about you. You were a class act all the way to the end. I was thrilled that Kathy and I were able to visit with you for a week or two this last summer. Rest in Peace and enjoy hooking up with your son, Chad, that you and Bonnie lost. :-(
