I knew Cliff since the 5th grade and we were great friends. He certainly was one of my most trusted friends. We played little league baseball on the same team (along with Dan Daniel and Tearil Hefner of our class). We both had scooters and rode them all over including down Comanche Hill about 80 miles an hour (no helmet, wearing shorts). In adolescence we would go to the makeout parties at the Sartin Twins home on Saturdays but we would end up out in the living room just talking because we would be the only guys that could not get a girl to pair up with either of us. We worked at Super Burger for years and would go to six-mile hill to drink beer afterwards, and we often attended parties on the Pecos River.

In my best Humphrey Bogart voice I will close by saying "We will always have Las Vegas." That was where our last trip this summer (2014) with our other homies, Terry Boone, Boyce McFarland, Chip King (who got stuck at an airport) and Jim Brown. Getting word of Cliff's death, several of us made great effort to be at his service on short notice. I thought that Cliff was my best friend. It turns out that others there felt he was their best friend. That is what is unique about Cliff ... that and his sense of humor and wit. Rest in peace my friend. You are missed.

Okay, here is one Cliff Sanders story. Growing up, he lived close to Tom Sabo and they were probably best friends. After graduation, they went different directions and had no contact. Right before our 30-year reunion, I located Tom in California. I let Cliff know Tom was a PhD in counseling and gave him Tommy's contact information. Tom had not heard from Cliff for 30-years until he received a letter that Tommy told me about while laughing so much he/we were crying. It went something like this:

Thomas Sabo, PhD

I am writing because I may benefit from your counseling. Since we do not live close, I hope you will not mind counseling me by internet since I suspect that is how you got your degree.

My wife goes out every Friday evening with the girls. I do not mind but when she goes out, she does not wear any panties. When I inquired about where her panties are, she says "They are all in the dirty laundry." I asked her if she could change her laundry day so she would have clean panties on Friday night but she says "No, Saturday is my laundry day because it works best."

I even offered to buy her more panties but she replies, "No, let's save our money for something more important." I was thinking my wife wearing panties when she goes out with the girls as being important.

Enclosed is payment for your counseling [$1 dollar bill was enclosed]. If there is any change, just apply it on my account. Thank you very much for any assistance you can give.

Sincerely yours,

Clifford W Sanders
