In high school years, Brent had one of the neatest cars around -- a brand new, shiny black, 389 cu. in. GTO convertible with a 4-speed. That was a sweet car. In one trip Brent and I took to Midland, Texas for the weekend, I recall driving on that Tatum highway, a narrow ribbon of a road with absolutely no safety shoulders, with the top down and going 110 MPH. Ah, the things we do when we were young and dumb. How did we survive?

I talked with Brent a number of times in the past 50-years but we never met again. Brent did meet Terry Boone and Tommy Alexander for drinks and stories one day. Besides Brent's successful chiropractic practice, he also did international banking ... so much so, his daughter graduated high school in Switzerland. Rest in peace, our friend. We remember.

FROM BOYCE McFARLAND

In the summer of 1967, Brent Thompson, Tom Sabo and I spent several weeks rambling around California in my 1934 Ford. Tom Sabo’s parents lived in Banning CA. and my parents lived in Fresno. We spent most of our time in Banning and in San Francisco and a lot of time traveling between the two places.

One of the things I remember the most during our travels that summer is working on a Chicken Farm/Ranch in Southern CA. We had been in San Francisco for awhile and decided to head back to Banning. In need of some funds, we all went to work on a Chicken Farm. My main job was cleaning out cages for the young birds; Tom’s was sterilizing the floor and walls of the buildings where they kept the young chickens. However, Brent I noticed was assigned to different jobs during the two weeks we spent working there. First he was making repairs to the roof on one of the building, next he was burning weeds along a fence line and finally he was driving around in a golf cart picking up dead chickens. I do remember thinking that Brent was not really used to manual labor, not a criticism, just an observation. He stepped thru a skylight while working on the roof, started a fire that burnt several wooden posts while burning weeds, but apparently found his niche picking up dead birds since that is where he ended up spending most his time. We worked there long enough to earn some traveling money and headed back to San Francisco. That was the last time I saw Brent. Although I did not know Brent during our adult life, I am sorry to learn of his death.

I remember Brent cruising Main Street in the wonderful Goat.  I was very envious.  My litttle yellow Mustang was not a match in any way.  Every time I see an early GTO I always think of Brent and his.

Let me give credit to PEGGY WARE KOGER who took the pictures and shared them with us. Peggy attended Dr. Brent Thompson's funeral and no one could represent our class better.

I wish I could have gotten him to write about his life before he became so quickly ill.  He was some kind of financial genius but was so modest and humble about it. He still loved cars.  He and his son bought  an old Chevy or Chevelle (sorry) 669? to rebuild, and he was on the hunt for an old Rolls Royce as well.

He was so down to earth and so witty....and he is sorely missed.
