BARBARA TOLAR McFARLAND    11/1/1949 - 12/27/2018

Barbara McFarland, beloved wife of classmate BOYCE McFARLAND for 33 years, peacefully passed away this week at her home with her husband by her side. As you can tell from the photo above, taken on her way home after over two months of intensive, inpatient chemo and radiation treatments, she was a very upbeat lady. In 1985, she married an Air Force intelligence officer, called "Mac" by all that knew him in the service, and followed him all over the world (and they did live all over the world).

Barbara was an accomplished educator, mostly special needs children and adults, from Mississippi to California. Barbara was the person that opened the first Life Skills Learning Facility in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Barbara had a mind of her own, could tell a joke, had a personality that drew people to her, was generous to a fault and had a very strong Christian belief which helped sustain both of them. My wife and I spent only four days with Barbara and have loved her since, but no one has more love for Barbara than her husband, Boyce. While they were in Rutgers University Cancer Center, Boyce lost 26 pounds himself. All this time Barbara was sick, she lacked for nothing if it was humanly possible for Boyce to provide it. His discipline and caring nature extended their time together. Barbara was able to take a Thanksgiving trip and then come home for Christmas. As a personal witness to Boyce's caring, I can just say he makes the Class of '66 look like they were raised correctly. We should all emulate the care Boyce showed Barbara these past 15 months.

A memorial service for Barbara will be this Saturday, January 5th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Carrizozo, NM.

There will be a gravesite service for Barbara in Missippi, where most of her family and lifelong friends live, on January 12th.

Jim White  (Class of '66 website co-administrator)

ATTENTION Live 60's Music Fans: This coming Sunday, January 6th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Albuquerque area classmates will be able to listen to JERRY ROBBINS ('67) and the Mungos at:

O'Neill's Irish Restaurant and Bar

Jerry Robbins and the Mungos performed at the 50-Year Reunion and our last mini reunion in Albuquerque. They were loved by all in attendance both times. If there is any way Kathy and I can be there, we will. There is less than 20% chance, at present, that I have learned to be two places at the same time but if I can, I will see you at O'Neill's. If you do go there, let Jerry know you are a classmate if he does not recognize you. Also, send me a private message (go to my profile / click on private message under my picture) if you plan to be there. Or let us know on this page so others might come to see you too. Thanks.

On another topic, recording artist BOBBY ALLISON ('66), Friday nights entertainment at the 50-Year Reunion, let me know when you get back to Mississippi. I may be passing through there around March (give or take a couple months). Hope to see you and Ernestine.

Jim White (AZ this morning, in NM tonight, back to AZ in 2 or 3 days)

We are now up to a 60% chance of being in Albuquerque at O'Neill's Irish Restaurant and Bar on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm while JERRY ROBBINS and the Mungos perform. I hope to see you there.

Good friends, at a sad time. Today's memorial service for Barbara McFarland was very, very nice. In case you do not recognize the above (L/R), JIM WHITE, BOYCE McFARLAND and KATHY WHITE.

Looking into the Carrizozo Valley as one is about to enter Carrizozo. Posted this for all of those classmates, like me, that left New Mexico years ago and forgot what it looks like.

LIVE 60's MUSIC - JIM BROWN  -- How many times do you actually see a former childhood friend and classmate. Obviously I try as often as I can. Tonight Kathy and I are in Albuquerque looking forward to seeing and hearing JERRY ROBBINS perform solo at O'Neill's Irish Restaurant and Pub (Sunday - 4-7 pm). NOTE; if you live in/near Albuquerque, this O'Neill's is the one in the NE quadrant of the city on Juan Tabo (Ave/Blvd/St/?).

JIM BROWN is always willing to show up if only to show he has more hair. JIM and I spent a lifetime together the summer of '68 when we lived together in Seattle. I bet you 60's kids did much of the same. Thank you Jim for taking the time to stop by as you were in a rush to get where you needed to be .... with KAREN MOORE WILSON and MICKEY.

Did anyone notice BRENDA RIDENER BRADLEY'S picture on the home page? Will your's be next?

Jim Sanders had a birthday recently. There is Berry Ives talking about a difficult math problem these two math genius had in school ... or maybe, just asking, "What have you been doing the past 50 years?

Bill,

You made my retired law enforcement little heart smile. I love a story where the bad guy gets his just deserts on the spot. Great account and it made me really laugh.

Thanks for sharing,

Debbie

If you click on "50-Year reunion video" at the top of the left column then watch for 5 minutes, the video portion will come to BRENDA RIDENER BRADLEY and other brave vocal classmates (Bobby Allison and Marilyn Miller playing guitars) singing "Today." Saturday, Kathy and I will be at a New Christy Minstrels concert in Quartzsite, AZ (Hal Hill's current home town), the band that made that song popular back in our day. Another hit they had back then was "Green, Green."  Do you remember either of these songs?

This is Brenda Ridener Bradley visiting RHS at the 50-Year Reunion. We now have someone else featured on the home page. I cannot tell you her name but her initials are Beatriz. Have you seen the page? Finally, have you updated your contact information on this class website? Keep it current, please.

MYRA BARNES ('67), ROD WESTENBARGER ('66), JIM WHITE ('66) and KATHY WHITE ('68 in Washington). Good Roswell classmates and friends eating at an Arizona Cowboy Bar. We hope you are looking up your friends too.

Rodney Westenbarger ('66) and Myra Barnes ('67) split their time between homes in Arizona and Idaho.

Jim ('66) and Kathy visiting with Jerry Robbins ('67) after a performance in Albuquerque.

On January 12, 2019, Jim and Kathy White went to a New Christy Minstrals concert. Jim had an opportunity to tell the founder, Randy Sparks (age 86), that he had Good News and Bad News. Randy looked puzzled so Jim continued, "Your song, Today, was my high school class song. That is the good news. The bad news is I attended Roswell High School." My apologies, classmates. I said it with a smile.

Not to worry, Ladies. BILL LEGGETT knows Kathy would never tell me her age. Remember, which JUDI ADAMS MORRIS can verify, although Kathy and I have been married 48 years, I am still on probation.

Now for our travels. Kathy and I are trying to fill in for PETE GARTON and lovely PATTY, who recently went from full time RV'ers to trips only RV'ers. Yes, they built a home in east Texas and after six years on the road, have settled down. Thus, Kathy and I are taking up the slack and asking Pete for advice all the time. Some of you follow us on our silly Facebook (private group) travel blog, JIM & KATHY'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURES (private group but you would be welcomed).

You know we hooked up with PEGGY WARE KOGER and FRED, as well as RODNEY WESTENBARGER and MYRA BARNES WESTENBARGER in Arizona. We also checked on HAL HILL and he is apparently doing well. Sadly we rushed through Las Cruces and did not have time to set up a mini-reunion there. My apologies to GAYLE MOORE DIORIO and others. Recently in New Mexico Kathy and I were able to see BOYCE McFARLAND, JIM BROWN and JERRY ROBBINS. In El Paso we did not check in on PATTY LOTZ but did leave a voice mail.

Currently we are going across Texas and the first classmate that has to put up with us will be our own MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN. We will be in Kerrville two days starting tomorrow. Then we have a 21 day reservation at Medina Lake RV Resort so plan to see classmates in San Antonio and probably Austin ... and spend time relaxing out in the country. Traveling as many miles as we have can take it out of you, and your wallet when on social-security. Yes, we will stop by Houston too. And I spoke with BOBBY ALLISON today, who is recovering from a recent surgery in Colorado, but he plans to be in Mississippi in time for us to hook up. If anyone is near I-10 on our pathway to Florida and would like to get together, send me a private message. Click on my profile, click private message under my picture and let me know where you live.

Blessings to all our classmate friends who are not as fortunate as Kathy and I. Sometimes, I wonder 'why' we are so blessed and so many others in horrific struggles. Take care of yourselves, my friends.

Jim White    <---homeless and loving it... thanks to the McFarlands

P.S. Next month, TERRY BOONE and JIM BROWN will be going to VietNam. They may also visit Thailand but they are not talking much.

JIM WHITE and MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN who have known each other since age six or seven, but through reconnecting on this class website, know each other better than ever before. We spent 4 hours together tonight talking about old Roswell times, people we know and what has gone on since.

Also, allow me to say that this Roswell High and Goddard High Classes of 1966 website is NOT meant to be a Jim White blog. Classmates want to hear about you. They want to see pictures of your family and your activities. Some classmates may be too shy to seek you out but would like to hear from you so seek them out. If you see a picture or note from me, it is submitted as a reminder for you to do the same. Thanks. :-)

I love seeing all the pictures and reading the posts. Good job everyone !

We are at Disney World staying at the Shades of Green, the military hotel near the Disney hotel. It is raining cats and dogs and three of us are sick! Not a good way to start off a vacation week in usually sunny Florida. An Arctic blast of cold air is expected tomorrow. Did I accidentally move to Colorado and don’t know it?!
