A fun and interesting place to visit while your at the reunion is:Sentinel Ranch Wine Tasting Room at the Peter Hurd Gallery.  Located at 105 La Rinconado LA, San PatricioNM.  25 miles from Roswell on your way to or from Ruidoso.  Very friendly and fun staff telling lots of stories of Peter Hurd, his wife and sons paintings.  Have a great collection of there own wines.  Each bottle has a painting from one of them.  Have a fun wine tasting.  Check them out at www.hurdgallery.com/sentinel-ranch-winery.  Tell them you are from RHS or GHS.  Enjoy!

Classmates like BOBBY ALLISON is one reason "why" we are having a 55-year reunion. First, we love those people that we have history with. Second, most are very caring and nice beyond measure. Here is my story this week. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law were in Ouray, Colorado (the Switzerland of America) so Kathy and I told them call BOBBY and ERNIE (Ernestine) ALLISON and they actually called the strangers and met with them. Al and Gerry told us, "Bobby and Ernie are the nicest people." Then Bobby and Ernie told us, "Al and Gerry are the nicest people." Anyway, my brother-in-law thought, "I recognize this fellow from somewhere." It turns out, Al had helped me put together Bobby's "At Home in the USA" video we put on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/9S0U-tUucA4

In any case, Al and Gerry conspired to have Bobby and Ernie surprise us at the wine festival. We were thrilled. Bobby has been bravely fighting Parkinson's disease. Although he probably will not be able to make the reunion, he loves his classmates and loves you!

More information on registration and Ruidoso side trip to follow.

PRE-REUNION NEWS:

LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN has possibly found (negotiations still going on) a live music performer for Thursday night's (Oct 14 - 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.) prereunion at Donnie's Pit Stop Grill (2703 Sudderth Drive) in Ruidoso before we all meet at the 55-Year Reunion in Roswell Friday and Saturday nights (Oct 15-16). The thoughts are (a) We have great memories of Ruidoso as well as Roswell, (b) If you do not know many classmates or spouses, it is nice to get to know a few people before the reunion, and (c) if you are traveling far to attend the reunion, you might as well add another night of fun and fellowship. So we can have a head count of sorts to give the restaurant, if you plan to be in Ruidoso Thursday night, please let Laurie know in one of the below ways:

Laurie Anne Shuey (Andersen)

I had my Covid Pfizer "#3" Booster vaccine 3 days ago, so if you've had at least 2 covid shots, it is safe for us to shake hands or even share a hug. The best that I can do is take all precautions available to me to prevent Covid.  I refuse to spend the rest of my life in fear of dying alone.  Dying is inevitable.  I'll be sure to look both ways crossing Main Street on my scooter to get to the 55th Reunion. See you there!

To Jim White and Bobby Allison:

Thank you for including the UTube link.  I loved the lyrics, the song, and the singer.  We thank God for your gifts and for the gift you have given to all of us through those talents.  Wish you and St. Ernie could join us for the 55th Reunion.

Roger Carl

I made the commitment this week with airplane reservations, room reservations and money to Pam (using Zelle for the first time).  My wife Paula can't come at that time because of a conflict.  But my younger sister Rada who lives in Albuquerque has agreed to be my nurse, driver, chaperone, and date.  She was RHS '71 and will attend the evenings with us--so no dancing on tables for me.  After the time in Roswell we will go back to Abq via TorC to visit our older brother (and get some Hatch green chili).

I put off making final commitments because of my slow recovery from heart valve repair in July.  I am happy to say I can finally see the end of my recovery road.  Not there yet, but I will get there.

The other thing that caused me to hold back, was the Covid situation across the country and especially what looked like problems in SE NM according to the state health stats.  But like Laurie, I got my #3 booster this week and feel like that gives me more confidence to get through the aiports and on the planes and mix with friends.

Looking forward to seeing everyone,

James (Jim) H. Sanders

Great news Roger & Laurie!  I, too, got my COVID booster shot this week.  Looking forward to meeting up with everyone at our 55th!

I'm flying in to ABQ Friday afternoon from bowling camp in Las Vegas, so will have a bit of a drive to get over to Roswell. I should be in town before you all break up Friday evening's event.

Was a liitle concerned about Roger recovering from the valve job enough to be able to travel back for the reunion.  We will have to compare notes; I had my mitral valve replaced in 2002, and have now been taking Coumadin for 19+ years.

Hey all!   Please keep sending updates even though I am unable to make this trip!
(Having Navicular Cuneiform surgery on my right foot). Non-weight bearing and in a cast for 6 weeks, the a boot after that. Still non-weight bearing. Sounds like fun, eh? I will live 'vicariously' through all your photos and updates. If anyone sees Betsy Frisinger, ...please see if she is finally emailing for me!  Love to all!

Doris Flood (Burton)

Regretfully, I need to let you know that Gary and I will not be coming to Roswell for the reunion next week.  My daughter's ex is being aggressive and threatening toward my daughter and grandson.  He has flipped out since she kicked him out about 8 months ago (after 13 years of living together).  My grandson is autistic, and he is suffering great anxiety because of the yelling, the threats and everything surrounding this situation.  Even though he is mid-functioning, he understands what is going on.  Suzanna has been the recipient of verbal, physical and emotional abuse for many years from several relationships.  She and Johnathon have been "home bound" since March 2020 because of COVID as they both have extremely compromised immune systems.  Suzanna's anxiety is "through the roof", and mine is too.  I feel it is important that I stay here in Kimball and be here for her during this time. (I am contacting an attorney on Monday to try to geet a restraining order.)  I will be there in spirit with you all.  Please post pictures.  Love to all....Doris

For Doris - My heart goes out to you and your daughter and grandson.  You've made the right choice, of course, but I know it's disappointing. I'm sure our classmates will post lots of photos for those of us not in attendance. Lots of prayers sent your way.  Hugs, Robin

And to Peggy - Best wishes for rapid healing!  Keeping weight off for that long will be a miracle!!  Good luck!  ;)

Harold Lee "Pete" Garton Jr

To all who will be attending the reunion. Have a great time! Smile a lot, laugh often and tell your stories of the last fifty years. It will be a great time. Memories live forever!

Sadly, and with dismay, Patty and I will be unable to attend. Patty is having her left ankle replaced on Tuesday, October 5 at 1:00pm. She will be out of commission for quite a while. If so inclined, any and all prayers are appreciated.

As mentioned in other posts, it would be fantastic if pictures and stories told could be posted to the website for those of us not able to be with you.

Again, have fun and enjoy!

Thanks, Pete

Donnia Marie Gouge (Brooks)

I am so disappointed that I will not be attending our 55th year reunion. This would have been my first. Unfortunately, I fell July 23 and was told by emergency I had no fractures, but, pain was almost unbearable! Over the next two months it was obvious I may not be able to travel, so, I went ahead, with doctors approval, scheduled my left knee replacement for September 22nd. On September 21st, they discovered I did have a moderate to severe compression fracture at T5 with 65% loss of vertebral body height and I went home with a brace to wear almost 24/7. It's like, that must be the reason I am still in pain!  They didn't think it would make any difference, so, I was approved to continue with knee replacement surgery! I found a great doctor who does the robotic surgery and this new knee should last 25 years compared to the standard 10 years for regular replacements. I will have my right knee done once I'm recovered from the left. I only personally know a few people that are going to the reunion, but I was really looking forward to making new friends too! Hopefully, my next surgery will be my last. I'm planning on making the 60th reunion! I expect to see everyone then. Roger, I am glad you are well enough to make this reunion. I also hope to see Jim and Kathy in Nov or Dec. Donna Birkenbuel, you will get a visit after both my knees are done! Mardi, someday! I am looking forward to seeing pictures! I hope everyone has a great time!

Brenda Day

I would love to go to the 50 year reunion but it is not possible. I just got home from spending 30 days in the hospital, 30 days in rehab and 30 days in assisted living. I can't even drive to the grocery store much less all the way to New Mexico.  Would love to see everyone.  Maybe next time if I am still alive.

Hi Brenda,

Sorry to hear about your illness keeping you from things you would like to do.  It would have been fun to see you and talk old times.  Stay well my friend.
