Fantastic Info, Kathy & Jim. Each visit is wonderful. Let's swim & jacuzzi this next visit. Meet this holiday wet before dancing with Will downtown Palm Spriings. The very best sax in the country.

Sadly, we announce the passing of WARREN HOLLINGSHEAD, brother to TOMMY HOLLINGSHEAD and married to SUSAN HUGGINS of our class. Thank you MARY HUSEMOLLER for updating our class. The last we knew, Warren and Susan were living near Tulsa, and Tommy was living in Alabama.

Our fiercely independent LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN would like to buy a used transport van I'd you know of one. She needs one tall enough to drive her electric wheelchair into. Also, if you know of an aid worker in Fort Worth area that may want some more hours, Laurie would love to talk with them.

CECIL THROWER just got back to Texas from California. He sends everyone his best wishes and blessings. PETE GARTON is doing well but staying pretty close to home.

Time is flying by in Palm Springs but, BARBARA BUZBEE, Kathy and I have not forgotten you and will see you soon.

Sweet DONNIA GOUGE O'BRIEN BROOKS has requested prayers for the coming week. Can we help?

Did you know ELIZABETH GWARTNEY LOWNEY abandoned her BFF, JUDI ADAMS MORRIS, in Colorado and moved to Tucson area?

BOYCE McFARLAND and Annie are loving their winter wonderland a mile off the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.

Next: Where in the world is Wally Reynolds? Has DORIS FLOOD had enough snow in Nebraska?

Love yaw'll. Merry Christmas.

Invading BARBARA BUZBEE Country.

Kathy and I were able to visit with BARBARA BUZBEE in Palm Springs. Barbara is still enjoying life, still healthy and can still stand on her head. Yes, I am not kidding. I have pictures but she posts her athletic ability on her own page.

We will be sad to miss PEGGY WARE KOGER by approximate 41 miles unless she can meet us for lunch half way on Monday. Can you? Message me. We were going to meet ELIZABETH GWARTNEY LOWNEY on Monday but she has chosen family over classmates. Well, dogs are family, right? Hers is having surgery so Elizabeth scratched Jim and Kathy off the calendar. On Tuesday we will be heading towards ROBERT SCALING, who we may meet in Las Cruces. Who else is there? We will be seeing MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN in Kerrville because she always has so many stories. We get to Lake Conroe around the end of the month. We will see a gang there, including BOB REAM and KAREN HARRINGTON REAM. RHONDA BERNING, KAREN PATTERSON NICHOLS, are you still around? Classmates are fun. Try calling or visiting a few yourself.

Thank you for taking time to visit Christmas here in the desert. Again, it's always a pleasure to see Kathy & Jim,our loyal young buddies. As I drove away ffrom our visit: I looked back and there, Jim & Kathy were walking away holding hands. This is a great Christmas & New Year's present. I'll keep up with your travels  just in case I can meet with you again !  Now,  don't forget one of the LOVELIEST scenes anywhere is the Bluff above its stream.  There's no reason for sight seeing anywhere but the Bluff in Medina; it is more than superb!  It reminds me of the highest Roman Architecture; only in the Texan Sky. Mardi make sure they go. Our eldest daughter, Rosemary, lives right beneath the Medina Bluff & next to the stream, my favorite area in the state of Texas.
Also,  her business with the best food in Texas is sold at the Farmer's Market in Medina & Kerville, where Mardi lives.  It is, Rosemary's Kitchen,  yeah, the apple falls not far from the tree!  All my very best to each of you.  Always & forever  we send all our love to Warren & Susan's friends & family  RIP

It was a long day and Kathy and I, sadly, passed by ROBERT SCALING, GAYLE MOORE DIORIO, ROBERT OYLER and possibly others in Las Cruces. Please understand, it was a 511 mile day which is alot when one is driving at least 22,000 pounds and 56' long. Of course, WALLY REYNOLDS would say "...those numbers mean nothing. Do you remember what I drove to Seattle every day?" Anyway, when we finally brought the beast to a stop, we managed to see sweet MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN, the originator of this website we have.

Mardi and I at a fun Carribbean Club outside of Kerrville. Great lunch and company. Then Mardi, Kathy and I went to see the movie "Otto." The movie was quite interesting, depressing and funny alternately. Everyone, chime in and let us know what you are doing. We do want to know.

Julia "Jill" Webster (Reed)

I am a little remiss in holding up to my duties.  Jim Sanders was so kind to come to visit Jill while he was in Dallas at Christmas time.  It was fun listening to the times they had as kids from 2nd grade on.  I'm can't tell you for certain when Jim walked in if Jill knew his name but she definitely knew it was somebody from her past.  We had one of Jill's friends from the facility join us (uninvited) who spoke in Hindi the entire time.  I think she understood us but we didn't understand her at all.  But a good visit.  Thanks Jim for stopping by to see Jill.

On a sad note, yesterday our daughter (Anne) and oldest granddaughter (Juliet) went out to see Jill.  Anne said that she could tell that Jill didn't recognize Juliet.  And when Juliet stepped away for a minute Jill asked Anne who Juliet was.  Sad to see that she has forgotten all of her granddaughters.

H.D.

Thanks for updating us! What a good guy Jim is. And I am so sorry to hear Jill didn't recognized Juliet.
Breaks my heart.

Blessings and hugs ,HD.

Richard Marcum

Well, everyone, I would like to report that Johnene and I returned to Panama City, Fl six months ago.  We looked at some property to build on here...and with all the difficulties in building a new home...and that it would take almost 9 months to build...we said, NO THANKS.   And as you know we left Panama City, in 2018 just days before Hurricane Michael hit.  And we have been back here for 2.5 months and we both reached the same opinion.   And that everywhere we look, the hurrican Michaels damage still remains.  So, we are heading to Pensacola this coming Friday to spend the weekend looking for a condo...no yard...lots of security...and that's how we want to spend the years we still have.  Now Johnene and I got married on the beach in Pensacola June 2, 1990...and hurricane Michael did not directly hit Pensacola...so we hope to find a place over there.

I must admit that from time to time, I miss Rosarito, Mexico.  But the weekly 50 minute drive from our condo there to Chula Vista, Ca. for our mail, groceries, etc. ...driving through Tijuana, Mx would take a toll on me.  At least once a month we would have a near crash...so it was time to leave.  Especially for our medical issues.  Now the dentists in Mexico are great.  But beyond that I couldn't get compfortable.

Now, I am glad to see that Jesse has found someone to live his remaining years with...and I hope that his last years are happy and not so lonely....I believe Laura would want it to be that way.  I say that because my wife is 12 years younger than me...so to all my buddies out there...she is amazing and you should knock on her door once I pass.  But I hope that will be at least 10 years from now.

Also, I am in conversations with some agents on my two books and one full feature film.  I have built a website where you can learn about them...and if you wish to read the two books and three scripts, drop me a line at marcum8@gmail.com and I will send you a Epub file or a PDF file of them to you.  Also, I would like to tell you about my website rickmarcumauthor.com.  I have our numerous travel videos with hyperlinks to Youtube.com that you can get there.

So, let me wish you all well.  And please overlook any of my highschool behavior that you might remember.  I have learned many a lesson and like to think I am not near the asshole I was back then.  As soon as Johnene and I get our condo situation completed, I will let you all know where we landed.

Take care everyone.

Welcome back to Florida, RICK MARCUM? The way you, and many others, can update their information is on the 2nd section on the left column, on "Edit Contact Info." Classmates may also update their profile. How was living on the beach in Mexico? Get any writing done on your balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean?

Happy birthday MARY MAULDIN GARCIA. Have you finished your move back to Las Vegas? Have you updated your contact information (see above)?

HERKY VEACH and LOUIS BAGWELL, I have not forgotten you. Family is coming to Galvston next week but possibly the following week we can hook up. BARBY MITCHELL STAGNER, are you still reading our Class site?

Classmates, I need some advice.  The American Moving and Storage facility in Roswell is closing in April.  My Father’s household belongings are stored there in 2 large containers.  I need to move the contents back to my home in Los Angeles.  Unfortunately United, Mayflower, and the other well-known movers I contacted will not transport things from Roswell anymore.  Does anyone know of a moving firm that will at least transport the containers to Albuquerque or Las Cruces?  The big movers are willing to transport from them to LA.  Otherwise we will have to try a “U-Haul” rental.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Hank Garrett

As Margie and I plan a new trip end of May thru June to Peru and Machu Pichu then July in Australia, I thought it was time to share one anecdote from our trip last year. In May 2022 we toured Italy, primarily using Eurail. When we were is Assis we stayed in a very nice AirBNB. The hostess invited us to visit one of her friends whose family owned an olive orchard. As we arrived and met our hostess' friend the father owner pulled up on a grey medium sized tractor. HGe was wearing a yellow ball cap. With my "vast" experience in U.S. agriculture I said "What you need is a green ball cap with the logo John Deere." He laughed and pointed to the manufacturers' logo on the cover of the engine. The logo read "LAMBORGHINI!" I thought "Okay, open mouth and change feet!"

BILL SLOAN is in Albuquerque for a week or less and would like to connect with classmates. If interested, please private message Bill. He and Margie would love to see you. He will be passing through Ruidoso also, before heading back to Tampa, Florida, then Peru, then Austrailia. Lucky guy.

Glad to have RICK MARCUM back in the U.S. We know he and Johnene love Florida. We may visit Florida next winter, Rick.

Please, EVERYONE, go to your profile and update your address and phone number. DONNA BiRKENBUEL, we know you do not still live in Ruidoso, nor you JIM BROWN. How many of you are showing your old (disconnected) line phone. We wish to keep in contact, The last reunion we had between 200 and 300 addressed cards returned for wrong addresses. We want to know what is going on with you, or your family to advise us if you are deceased. Our class use to be the envy of other classes as we kept it all together. That is no longer true.

Bless LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN's heart. She is still fighting the battle with her paralysis. If you would like to drop her a note or card and need Larurie's address, let me know. JILL WEBSTER REED is still fighting alzehimers and has wonderful support from her children and husband. Jill is blessed, as she should be. BILL and MARGIE SLOAN will celebrate their 50-Year anniversary in October. Hooray! Anyone else? Do you know of anyone else who is sick or has passed away? Please let us know.

Kathy and I are in Jamaica Beach (Galveston Island) for another month. We did see HERKY and MARY VEACH. They are so delightful and helpful to so many people. LOUIS BAGWELL, I have not forgotten you. I wish to connect before we head back up north to Seattle for our youngest son's wedding. Oh, and we did see BOB REAM and KAREN HARRINGTON REAM when we were north of Houston. Did I tell you ELIZABETH GWARTNEY LOWNEY left Colorado and her BFF, JUDI ADAMS MORRIS, for Arizona. Hmmm, I wonder what decisions Summer will bring? MICHAELE AUSTIN KELLY was able to hook up with her childhood friend this past year, after nearly 60-years.  Please, everyone, stay in contact.

Hooray for BUTCH COLBERT and SHARON for 50-years of wedding bliss. Butch is one of our classmates, like Bob and Karen Harrington Ream, Laura Knight Atkins (now deceased), Herky Veach and others that have worked in the oil business in the middle east. Having a loss in the family is truly hard and Butch and Sharon have lost two children. This guy, meaning me, cannot imagine the loss. Blessings to Gilbert "Butch" and Sharon on their 50th Anniversary.

So John Rommel has a birthday coming up, aye? I tried to reach him awhile back and could not. Craig Sutherland, can you try? You know our concern. Betty McCombs Patton's birthday is 3 days later. She is one others are jealous of as she looks about 40. Sorry I do not know more of you so I could tell classmates about you. Deborah Pike is still in Hawaii .... right, Deborah? Jill Webster Reed is still hanging in there, as is her wonderful, supportive husband, H.D. Reed. Kathy and I will be passing by and visiting with Laurie Shuey Andersen in about a month, right before her birthday. How is upper NY retirement, Robin Lostetter? Tommy Alexander, still riding your motorcycle? How is Las Cruces treating you?

James A "Jim" White

I was fortunate to have LOUIE BAGWELL come visit me in Galveston today. Thank you Louie for coming all the way down here and I always love our conversations. You probably know that Louis was a prominent attorney before retirement, but did you know he worked his entire career for the oldest, continuous law firm west of the Mississippi?

Kathy and I have wonderful neighbors here at Jamaica Beach RV Resort and they were kind enough to let us take their 3-Wheel Cycle out. It has a speedometer reading 150 MPH. We did not even attempt to speed, but this was a fun afternoon ride. Right beyond the telephone pole is the Gulf of Mexico. We are lucky to be here with 32-miles of sandy beach.

k

I told MARDI GONYEA NICKLIN that this painting at a local restaurant reminded me of her. The more I think about it, I believe our Florida beach classmate, KAREN McCARTY MESSINA fits in there also. Which of our classmates do you think would enjoy the sun and wine and fill the other spots?

I've forgotten who all has a birthday coming up but my memory tells me LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN has one next week. We will see her and, hopefully, TERRY BOONE and possibly CECIL THROWER while in Fort Worth area for a very short time the end of May. Then move onto Lubbock to see MILDRED ANDREWS FORD. What classmates will you be seeing?

Brunch at Farley's Roswell, Sunday April 23rd. I had a really good time catching up with (left to right) Craig, Margie, Dickie, Pam, Bill, Jim.  I am so glad to have such good friends at home! We talked, ate some, talked some more! And thank goodness the owl scarepigeon was on duty protecting us!

Thank you for posting, Bill. It is great to see everyone. Yes, Jim Gill was in our Sunday school class when we were wee tots. Great to see everyone. Thanks for taking pictures, and have a safe trip as you and Margie continue your travels all over the world.

I so wish I could have been in Roswell for that get together at Farleys.  Some of my favorite memories as a kid and older were made with some of those people sitting at that table.  So good to see their faces.

Margie and I start our next trip this coming Wednesday, May 24th. First is Peru with a 2 weeks tour plus a couple of days. Definitely going to Machu Pichu and the Nazca lines plus others. Then 1 week in Chile and 5 weeks in Australia. I will send some photos and commenrs along the way.

See the attached photo: I still have the majority of my mental faculties; I do not have a screw loose. However on the Ellis Trail, Sandia Peak I did find my missing bolt!  Wishing you all a really good summer!

Julia "Jill" Webster (Reed)

Hello to the RHS-GHS family.  I want to give you an update,  Do to a concern over the quality of care my kids and I have moved Jill to a different facility.  The new facility is:

Brookdale Oak Hollow, 2016 L. Don Dodson Parkway, Bedford, TX 76021

Feel free to send Jill a letter or a card and they will get it to her.  I know she likes hearing from you.

When the nurse at the new facility was doing her assessment with Jill, she found that Jill knew her name and birthdate, and knew she was married, had two kids, a boy and a girl, and the boy's name was Tucker but couldn't remember the girl's name.  When the nurse asked Jill what year it was she said she thought it was 1978.  Last June when Jill was in the hospital with a UTI the med nurse came in and asked Jill her name, birthdate, and what year it was Jill told her Jill Webster, 4/28/48, and 1982.  That means we have lost another 4 years in the last 11 months.  Eventually I will be a distant memory as well.  Luckily for some of you like Jim Sanders, who goes back to whatever year second grade was, you will be around a lot longer.

Right now she is angry about the new facility, but will settle in with time.  The good news for me is that this time she is blaming Anne and not me like she did the first time.

I'll keep you all informed as we travel down this journey together.  Thank you.  Harold "H.D." Reed

Prayers and hugs are coming your way from us in Nebraska.  I can only image how hard this is, H.D., but you are doing a yoeman's job with the task at hand.  If Jill were able to tell you, I know she would tell you how much she loves you for always being there for her and for taking such good care of her.  We all value your friendship, and please know we are there for you any time you need us.  Love to you and Jill - Doris & Gary Burton

I have been fortunate to see some classmates this past week. Have you? Please tell us about your visits.

Had a wonderful visit with this model, LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN. Laurie, thank you for the good visit and time. Kathy and I really appreciated spending time with you.

Just two old friends (well, the one on the left is old) in rocking chairs in front of Cracker Barrell. MILDRED ANDREWS FORD and I first met in the 5th or 6th grade. Mildred keeps in contact with a few classmates and those that contact her are much appreciated. Is this a "staring contest" or a "I remember when you ......" thought process?

TERRY BOONE with his much better half, Judy.

You never know who you will meet when you are out and about town with TERRY BOONE.

We had a wonderful time at the Grapevine Fest. Thank you, Terry.

Here is what little bit I know, or think I know, about our lifelong friends.

BUTCH COLBERT and Sharon celebrated their 50th anniversary near the end of April. We hope you got to celebrate with family in Las Cruces.

BILL SLOAN and Margie will celebrate their 50th anniversary in October, when they return from their trip to Peru (where they are now), then Chili, then Austrailia..

JIM BROWN recently had a murder in the street in front of the Museum he is building in Tulerosa.

HANK GARRETT, did you ever find any help moving your containers out of Roswell? How is everything going with the Mars trip? Sure, you are retired but I know you must be keeping tabs.

MARY MAULDIN GARCIA and her husband recently moved back to Las Vegas, Nevada. How did the move go, Mary? Did you sell your home in Yuma?

RICK MARCUM, welcome back to Florida from Mexico, although I loved (pictures, anyway) your condo there. Where, exactly, in Florida did you land? Have you updated your profile and contact information on the website? Any more novels? Keep us up to date so we can read them all. Also, how is the movie script writing coming along?

JIM SANDERS, we are all so thrilled you came all that distance to see Jill Webster-Reed. Hooray for you? Were you able to see Laurie Shuey Andersen while in the area?

ELIZABETH GWARTNEY LOWNEY, now living in Arizona, needs to go visit her BFF JUDI ADAMS MORRIS in Colorado. Judi told me so. Well, not in those words but we all understand.

Hey, everyone else, H.D. Reed posted Jill's address. If you knew her, will you please write her and Laurie Shuey Andersen. Both are confined and notes are much appreciated. If you do not have an address, private message me on this site and I will give them to you. My apology, H.D., for not seeing Jill on this pass thru. We were tied up at Bridegeport (Runaway Bay) and had to move on. I did find time to visit my parents and brother, Bob, buried in Denton.

Finally, honor Memorial Day this weekend. Here is a picture of my holding Ed Griffiths sword presented to his widow (the only Gold Star widow in our class) LAURIE SHUEY ANDERSEN. Edward was killed in the 1968 Tet Offensive. It is possible that Agent Orange contributed greatly to Laurie's second husband's death. Freedom is not Free.

Okay, write and tell us how you have been spending your children's inheritance ... or how your grandchildren are smarter than other people's grandchildren .... or how your arthritis is limiting your life ... or how you appreciate classmates, your closest friends from the past.
