Sharon and I lived near each other and were close friends growing up. We talked much on the phone, at school and at her home. She use to have sleepovers and Billy Adams and I would sneak down the alley and scare the girls.
At the 20 year reunion I learned Sharon owned a gift shop across from Texas Stadium. I lived in Texas at the time but was moving to Chicago so I went looking for her. We had no contact, not even a Christmas card, for over 20 years. Neither one of us had any idea where the other lived. We had no way to know we might ever see each other again. I went into her store and she had her head down looking at something behind the counter. I quickly turned around, my back to her, in case she might recognize me, although I was 20 years older than the last she saw and had gained 40 pounds. I was spinning the post card rack trying to think of something to say. She must have looked up because she asked, "Can I help you find something?" I replied, my back still to her, "I am looking for something for my wife, something that just oozes with sex." She started to reply, "I am afraid we don't ..... JIM WHITE?" Yes, no contact for 22 years, no reason to think we were in the same universe and she recognized my voice."
Cancer took Sharon way too young. She left a loving husband and two girls. You are missed, Sharon.
Because Jim White and I are building the classmates site, we are also taking the opportunity to set things up so that our classmates have a great experience on here. With that in mind, we apol.ogize to Marianne Coons McCollough for jumping ahead of her, while we knew she would want to be one of the first ones to post about her best friend, Sharon. I had the best times in 11th grade getting to "pal-around" with Sharon, Marianne and Mary Mauldin. We had some great laughs together. We were really sad when she decided to move to CA. She was surely missed. I didn't find out she had passed until I saw Marianne and Mary at the 30th Year Reunion. It broke my heart because a great person was taken from us way too soon. We know when there are angels among us, and God sent this one for a short time for us to love.
Sharron and I dated in high school and when I came home on leave from the Navy. I didn't learn of her passing till our 30th reunion. She was a true angel with a heart of gold. She was a true love.
Sharron was one of my best friends since grade school, she has two wonderful children that I keep in touch with and five grandchildren and a beautiful great granddaughter. I miss her all the time. She fought so hard to live and I was lucky enough to see her a few months before she passed away. I know she would be so proud of all her kids, grandkids and that great granddaughter. She would have loved to come to the reunion to see all her friends.
Sharon was my first friend that I can remember. We lived on Hendricks around the corner from where she lived on South Missouri. We stayed friends through grade school but started drifting apart as we grew older. She was a truly terrific, good person and I don't remember her ever having anything bad to say about anyone. She will always be one of my fondest early memories of my childhood. She will always be missed by anyone that knew her.
