Here is what Tiffany Tubb posted on Facebook.....
“It is with a broken heart that I share that my mother, Devie Russell, made the trip to heaven to be welcomed by her parents on December 26th. She was surrounded by her family and love. This happened very unexpectedly and has been a great shock to our family. We are still in the process of making arrangements and have little details at this time. So many have reached out to share their thoughts and condolences. We are humbled in this and know that she touched many lives. Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayer.”

This is so sad to hear about Devie. I know she had been experiencing some problems a few years ago.  She lived in my old adobe house in Roswell for seven or eight years and left there I'd say about five years ago.

My heart goes out to her family and friends.

God Bless her.

I am so sorry to hear of Devie’s passing. I have always thought of her as my friend all through school as we grew up. She was always such a sweet, nice person. I don’t remember her ever saying an unkind word about anyone. She was one of the first people from our school days I reconnected with after I retired and I am so very glad that I made two trips to Odessa to visit her. She’s will be missed. Prayers sent for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren greatly and spoke very fondly of them.

I cannot remember if Devie attended Missouri Ave elementary or not, but I certainly knew Devie in Junior High and High School. Further, I found her as a lost soul and got her reconnected with our class, then met her again when she came to Roswell for a decade or so. We never dated or hung around in the same group in high school, but since we shared so many classes, I feel I knew her better than I actually did. As everyone says, Devie was a real sweetheart. Always spoke softly, always spoke well of classmates. All classmates deaths are a loss to our classmate group. As John Donne wrote, "Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee."

I did not know Devie in school. However, she invited Michaele Austin and me to one of her community plays in Odessa. She was outstanding and a great hostess! Lots of fun!

In addition to Jim's comment - I believe that Devie did go to Missouri Avenue.  I seem to remember her from there, but it has been a very long time and memory isn't what it used to be.

I think Devie did go to Missouri Avenue   It doesn’t seem like she went there all through elementary school though. You’re right, Gilbert, it was a long time ago! I have an old autograph book and she did sign it. It seems like that may have been around the 5th grade?
